Tremont Street Medical School is established.

[1839] Founded by Jacob Bigelow [Henry Bigelow], Oliver Wendell Holmes, Edward Reynolds, and David H. Storer, doctors who are dissatisfied with the curriculum at Harvard Medical School. The school does not confer degrees. It continues to operate until 1858, when it becomes a summer program at Harvard Medical School and is fully subsumed into Harvard Medical School in 1871.
